Friends for life|一生的朋友

In kindergarten1 your idea of a good friend was the person who let you have the red crayon2 when all that was left was the ugly black one.
  In first grade your idea of a good friend was the person who went to the bathroom with you and held your hand as you walked through the scary3 halls.
  In second grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you stand up to the class bully4.
  In third grade your idea of a good friend was the person who shared their lunch with you when you forgot yours on the bus.
  In fourth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who was willing to change dancing partners so you wouldn't have to be stuck with5 nasty6 Nicky or smelly7 Susan.
  In fifth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who saved a seat on the back of the bus for you.
  In sixth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who went up to Nicky or Susan, your new crush, and asked them to dance with you, so that if they said no you wouldn't have to be embarrassed.
  In seventh grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you with the social studies homework the night before you had to hand in.
  In eighth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pack up8 all your stuffed toys9 so that your room would be tidy.
  In ninth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who didn't laugh at you when you finished10 and broke out into tears.
  In tenth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who changed their schedule11 so you would have someone to sit with at lunch.
  In eleventh grade your idea of a good friend was the person who gave you rides12 in their new car, consoled13 you when you broke up with Nick or Susan, and found you a new date to the party.
  In twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pick out a college/university, assured you that you would get into that college/university, helped you deal with your parents who were having a hard time adjusting to14 the idea of letting you go...
  At graduation your idea of a good friend was the person who was crying on the inside but man aged the biggest smile one could give as they congratulated you.
  The summer after the graduation, your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pack up for university and just silently hugged15 you as you looked through blurry16 eyes at 18 years of memories you were leaving behind, went out of their way17 to give you reassurance18 that you would make it19 in college as well as you had these past 18 years, and sent you off to college.
  Now, your idea of a good friend is still the person who gives you the better of the two choices, holds your hand when you're scared, helps you fight off those who try to take advantage of20 you, thinks of you at times when you are not there, reminds you of what you have forgotten, helps you put the past behind you but understands when you need to hold on to it a little longer, stays with you so that you have confidence, goes out of their way to make time for you, helps you clear up your mistakes, helps you deal with pressure from others, helps you become a better person, and most importantly loves you!
  Thank you for being a friend. No matter where we go or who we become, never forget who helped us get there.

  五年级时,你理想的朋友是这样一个人:他/她会在公共汽车的后座上为你保留一个座位。
  六年级时,你理想的朋友是这样一个人:他/她会走到你新结识的意中人尼基或苏珊面前,请他们与你跳支舞——这样当他们拒绝你时,你不至于尴尬。
  七年级时,你理想的朋友是这样一个人:他/她会帮助你做完社会课作业好让你第二天按时上交。
  八年级时,你理想的朋友是这样一个人:他/她帮你收拾好所有的填充玩具好让房间整整齐齐。
  九年级时,你理想的朋友是这样一个人:在你因失败而哭泣时,他/她不会嘲笑你。
  十年级时,你理想的朋友是这样一个人:他/她会改变自己的作息表,好能陪你共进午餐。
  十一年级时,你理想的朋友是这样一个人:在尼基或苏珊与你分手时,他/她会用新车载你去兜风,安慰你,并为你另寻舞伴。
  十二年级时,你理想的朋友是这样一个人:他/她会帮助你挑选一所中意的大学,确保你圆大学梦,并帮你“搞掂”不愿你远行的父母……
  毕业时,你理想的朋友是这样一个人:当大伙在一边祝贺你时,他/她虽然内心悲伤,但脸上却挤出最灿烂的笑容。
  毕业之后的那个夏天,你理想的朋友是这样一个人:他/她帮你收拾上大学的行囊,当你泪眼盈盈回首身后的18年,他/她默默地拥抱你,不厌其烦地给你打气:大学你能行,一如过去的18年,然后送你踏上大学的征程。
  如今,你理想的朋友还是这样一个人:他/她会帮助你作出最佳选择;在你害怕时,他/她会紧握你的手;他/她会帮你赶开那些想占你便宜的人;你不在身边时,他/她会想念你;他/她会提醒你忘掉了什么;他/她会帮助你把过去抛在脑后;当你需要回味时,他/她也能理解你,陪伴你,让你信心百倍;他/她还会不厌其烦为你挤出时间纠正错误,帮你应对外来的压力,帮助你有所作为,最重要的是,爱你没商量!
        谢谢你成为我的朋友!无论你我身在何方,无论你我身居何职,永远不要忘记那些帮助我们到达彼岸的人。
